May 5, 2010 Final Assignment
1. YouTube- this was the first time I have ever posted anything on YouTube and I am proud of it. This something that the whole world will see.
Blogger- I can keep up with this in the future. It's mine to post things that have experienced in my profession. I can talk to fellow students as we progress into our futures.
Google and Google Earth- i plan to use this in my classroom. I thought this was awesome. I have my own email account and it's free and I can tour the world and it's free.
Screenjelly and Screentoaster- my first time using it and I think I'm an expert. Our recording did not work but we used so many times.
Podcasts- my partner and I made a podcast and we hope it will be informational. They are good tools for information and instructional.
iTunes- did not use it that much but i knew about from my son. He has an iPod and that is all he does.

4. This class made me more nervous than anything. I am so use to someone showing me how to do things and I go back and repeat it for homework. And on the other hand, I learned how to find things on my own and I tried to figure out how to do it.
5. Google Earth. I did my project over and over again. I could not for the life of me figure it out. but thanks to my classmate Brittany south, she showed me how.
6. No, I was not bored. I was afraid to come to class. I felt left behind all the time. I learned the material but I was slow about doing it.
7. The only thing I would change is the learning on your own. I think there maybe more students like me. The workload was fine, we're college students not kindergartners. As I said once before, show me how to do it and I can go to town on my work.
8. Yes. Some medium. I could not blog before, didn't know what it was. But I can say proudly that I am a blogger now.
9. I am going to try and stay up on my PLN. This is something I would love to have when I begin teaching.

April 25 Assignment
7th Grader Personal Learning Network
I extremely proud of this young lady. The kids of today know more about technology than the older generation and that has got to change. This girl has accomplished something that I not yet beyond to begin. To know how to go to the internet and pull up whatever you need to find without any hesitation is amazing. This is a good example what have to do to keep up to speed with the world.
Two Questions that can change your life.
My sentence someday will be "she taught generation how to do math". My goal is to become a math teacher and I know I need to step up the pace a little to get to my destination. And I do feel that each day I get better and better. Now I can say I do have a little technology under my belt with more to come.

April 11- homework
Dr. Seuss "The Zax"
This is a great example of how the world is changing whether you join it or not. The world is not going to wait on you. Technology is evolving and it's up to you to keep up with the changes. You can stand still and not do anything but the world does not care, it's going forward. You can't be stubborn and refuse to learn, for if you don't learn you will be a monument in the middle of a growing world with no clue.

The comments from Mr. W. Chambelain's class and the voice thread was amazing. I'm proud to be a part to the experience Kaia's father is creating for her. Technology is astounding. Her father took her adventure and shared it with the world. I feel left behind due to the fact that middle schooler know more about technology than I do but I'm not upset about because I'm getting there. March 28- Homework assignment
An Open letter to Educators by Morgan Bayda
She tells us how she sat in a university classroom and listened to an instructor lecture. There was no interaction between the students on the topics discussed. This to me would be very boring and as far as paying attention to what was said would be hopeless. Not be able to interact in the classroom is unproductive to the student. To paraphrase what my instructor Dr. Strange says, it that burp back is not a good teaching tool. When students are interested or excited about a class, it makes learning a lot more fun for the students.
The video of Dan Brown was short and to the point. He states that he dropped out of school because his schooling was interfering with his education. When you have been exposed to only the same teaching method learning to adapt and change with the times takes some time. The younger generation was born into all the technology that is around them now but for the older generation they have got to adapt to. It is not impossible but it make take a while for some.

Teachers from all over put their lesson plans on this site. I feel this is very resourceful for me and others due to the fact that we will have a guideline as to how and what we should know and teach.
Also this site has a place for your own personal workspace. A place that only you can go and do things you need to get done.

March 7- Assignment
Randy Pausch's Last Lecture: Achieving your childhood dreams.
This video was one of the most powerful and inspiring videos I have ever seen. During the entire lecture, he talked about his past life. His childhood dreams, being at zero gravity, playing in the NFL, an author in the World Book Encyclopedia, and a Disney Imagineer. At the beginning of the clip he tells us that he has only a few months to live, from that moment on I knew this man had something important to tell us. He had knowledge that he wanted to share, not only to us but to his kids also. The reason for the whole lecture was to get his points across to his kids. He kept me interested to the lecture. I was hanging on his every word.
I was really impressed with him about his classes he held. He put them in groups and they came up with projects using virtual reality. The groups went beyond his expectations.
Also I noticed on YouTube he had over 11 million viewers.
February 28- Assignments
This is how we dream 1 & 2 by Richard Miller
He tells us how we have change with technology. We no long work with books but now we carry our laptops. Sitting down in the library is not any more for just reading a book. You can now go on the web and explore the world. He talks about the pedagogy we use. Teaching with technology is the way the world is headed. We need inspiring teachers with the will to learn as they tech their students.
The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler
I like the simple way the author uses the drawing to bring her point across. The student learning about technology on his own and going further into technology. The 21st century student is technology savvy. But what does he need with a teacher. She is there to help him when he comes upon things that he can tackle. She can also guide him in the right way to use the computer.

This video was informative. How the generations have changed over the years. How technology started with TV and has progressed beyond wonder. It is going to continue to grow beyond wonder. I understood when he used the simpson cartoon with the word "eh" and in 2001 how it changed to "meh". We are change with the times and we have got to keep up with what is going on.
At the end of the video he has people from everywhere display on their hands different saying of "one planet". Some in different languages but all meaning the same.

Dr. Alice Christie
Dr. Christie has been teaching for several years and now she is retired. She knows what it takes to teach students of today. She is so on point when tells us about using technology in educating our students.
Students of today use more technology in about everything they do. So taking that knowledge and using what they love to do and turning ti into something beneficial and educational.
iTunes University
It is good to know and not assume. I assumed that iTunes was all about music. Ignorance is not pretty. This site provides so much more. It can be educational in so many ways. I was amazed to see the different universities posted on this site. You can learn about art, music and more. This can be helpful to students in the event they can't make to the classroom. Their class work can posted on iTunes. Teachers can use this as a teaching tool, another way for keeping their students interested.

Wired Story
After reading the story of Wikipedia, I am interested in the things that go on in this site. I have always been told not to use this source for information. I never understood why but now I do.
Putting trust in this site is not a good idea. Whenever someone can go in and change or delete the information is not a good source. I do not think that it will ever be a reliable source to use. It is good that Mr. Griffith found a way to track back to the IP addresses but until someone can come up with a way to control the deleting and editing on Wikipedia then I do not think it is going to be reliable.
"What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung.
This blog was inspiring. As I said on Mr. McClung's blog, we start out all gungho and thinking we are there to save the world but in reality we have to slow down and get to know our students. I really enjoyed his blog, he talks about all things I have been thinking about every since I started in Education and he hits all the key points on the head. We as teachers have got to except that we need to learn as well the student.

The benefits of podcasting in the classroom by Doug Saunders
It is absolutely amazing to see "Millenials" as stated by Doug Saunders, working on a computer. These kids are really young and their technology skills surpass mine. I can remember being in school and sitting in a classroom listening to my teacher read stuff to me and I had to remember it and "burp it back" to her, like what Dr. Strange would say. i would be bored out of my mind but today is a new day. The old way is out and here comes the new kid on the block.
When a child misses school and is not able to attend it is nice to know you still have a way to teach that child without them being in the classroom. You can relay information necessary for that child to keep up with the rest of the class.
Also I love the idea of being able to making my classroom an enjoyable place to learn. Standing in front a classroom reading off materials is not my idea of being a effective teacher. i want my students to leave me having learned something and with with technology i feel that they will explore more places, people, and things than I ever did in my 12+ years of schooling.

After listening to the podcasts, it makes things come into perspective. Teaching podcasting to kids is a wonderful way to expose them to the world without leaving the classroom.
Technology can be scary when you are not familiar with it. Kids of today are growing more towards technology and we as teachers have got to learn to grow with them or else be tech illiterate.
In one of the podcast Dan Schmid mad excellent points about the teaching with podcasting. His passion on educating with podcasting will spark an intriguing notion of wanting to learn more.

A Vision of Students Today
Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
This clip was powerful. The students sitting in a classroom not saying a word, had more than a mouthful. The signs they held up had a lot to say. One girl pointed out that she will complete 49% of her reading assignments but only 26% will be relevant to her life. Another student tells on her sign that she will read 8 books this year, read 2300 web pages, and 1281 facebook profiles. Now that is mind blowing to actually see that a student wrote this. Another says she will write 42 pages for class this semester and 500 emails.
The technology is there but what are we, future educators, going to do to apply this to our classrooms. It is very sad to see a students bring his laptop to class and do everything else on it but class work.

Technology is our future and we have got to stay on top of it in order to stay in the race. Countries all around us are getting more and more savvy with their technology. We have the ability and the talent to be learner of anything. So having that ability , we need to open our minds to learning more and then passing that on to our students in the future.
I can argue with you when you say technology is just a tool, not, it is the wave of the future. Without technology we would be lost.
Karl Fisch: Is it okay to be a technologically
illiterate teacher?
Mr. Fisch made some good points pertaining to technology and the future. In the 90s, not knowing how to read and still get a decent job was alright. But now in the 21st century, not knowing anything about technology, to me, is life threatening. Everything we come in contact with in some form or fashion is associated with technology.
Teachers of the future will need to be open to learning more as they teachers their students in order to transfer that information along to them. It was a be harsh to say that if teachers are technologically illiterate they should have their license reviewed. I think everyone can learn, we just learn at different paces.

Did You Know?
Did You Know?
This video clip was power in the way that it displayed the various statistics comparing the United States to different countries. It is absolutely wonderful how it tells you of how behind the United States are. We as a nation need to take heed in these results and step up to the plate and start hitting some homeruns for the United States. Our science and math departments have got do do better about educating their students. The world is moving forward and we are standing still.
Mr Winkle Wakes.
This clip was unique. It showed Mr. Winkle in cartoon and the technology and people were all real. To me this showed a difference in the two worlds of Mr. Winkle. Mr. Winlke's world did not have all this technology as it display in the world of today. The only thing he recognize was the school system and how things were done in his time. Everything pertaining to school was still the same, nothing had change but the computer in the back of the room that had been barely used.
We see in this clip that the schools are behind in technology. The businesses, hospitals and many more have advanced with world in technology. Here we go again being behind in technology in schools, which puts us behind all the other countries.
Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
Ms. Davis is an inspiration to me. She is exactly what I want to be when I start my teaching profession. She bring the technology to her students and they teach each other. The project of Terraforming was really a learning experience for her students and her self.
She has her students linked to various countries around the world and that is an experience that they can use in years to come. I want to be able to bring the world inside my classroom and to show my students all the possibilities of the world.
Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity.
Mr. Robinson is passionate about how creativity has been pushed to the side of academics. Seems to me Mr. Robinson was a creative person who has made it and is contributing to society now. The importance of sciences and maths are just as important as creativity but that the differences we have recognize for our students. Forcing a child to learn of something he is not interested in will only put him the box of being a troublemaker. Instead we as future educator have to learn the weaknesses and strengths of the students we plan on educating.
We as teachers have to be creative in order to reach some of our students. So it's not all on the students but us as well.
